Ped ID chipsMicrochipping Your Cat or Dog

We've all seen the sad lost pet notices posted throughout our neighborhoods. When your pet gets lost, however, it's more than just an inconvenience: It's the number one cause of pet death. Studies have shown more than 10 million pets get lost each year and approximately 90% of those found would not have been returned to their owner without some form of permanent lost pet identification.

The team at Swift Creek Animal Hospital considers the HomeAgain microchip pet ID a fundamental part of protecting your pet and an important part of responsible pet ownership. Each microchip registers the animal with a unique identification number, which is filed in a national pet recovery database with your contact information. The contact information can be updated any time, and it is important to remember to do so whenever your information changes. With a microchip, your pet can be identified quickly and easily by animal control officers, shelters or at veterinary hospitals around the world.

Microchips are safe, unalterable and permanent identification for pets and require no sedation. The entire implant procedure takes less than 10 seconds and is virtually painless.

House Calls

To provide you with the most comprehensive veterinary care possible, we also offer house calls to our established clients on a case-by-case basis. Simply put: there are times when it is best you and your pet remain at home, where you're both at your most relaxed and comfortable, and we come to you. Certainly the most difficult, though most important, house call we make is when a beloved pet has reached his or her last day. Providing the opportunity to spend that important day at home, surrounded by loving and familiar faces, is a comfort to you and your pet, and a vital aspect of our veterinary services.

Your Veterinary Pharmacy

The availability of your pet's prescription medication from Swift Creek Animal Hospital's in-house pharmacy — quickly, at the right dose and with accurate instructions — is another way we work hard to be your partner in the care of your pet. We also provide you with detailed instructions on the medication's use, discuss any side effects or interactions and even administer the first dose for you if possible. When it comes to the medications for your pet, no regular pharmacy can guarantee the same comprehensive inventory or level of service.

For your convenience, we maintain an inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry Royal Canin, Purina and Science Diet prescription foods.

Ensuring you have convenient, timely access to competitively priced medications and other pet care products is an important aspect of our veterinary practice. Refills are easy, too. Simply give us a call at (804) 744-7222.

End-of-Life Planning

For many pet owners, even thinking about their pet's final days is difficult and emotional. Our pets are a part of our family. It is this strong bond, born from years of loyal companionship, that makes this time particularly hard to bear.

We encourage you to talk with our veterinary healthcare team about these issues before they become urgent. Find out about your options, including cremation through Agape Pet Services and grief counseling, make some key decisions ahead of time and ask us to add this information to your pet's record. Taking the time to plan, as challenging as it may be, will lessen the pain and stress for you and your pet.

All of us at Swift Creek Animal Hospital will do our best to help you prepare for these important issues with the compassion and sensitivity they require.
