Midlothian Veterinarian Valerie Lucas, Associate DVM

Dr. Valerie Lucas graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VA Tech) in 1997 and has lived and worked in the Richmond area ever since. Dr. Lucas has been practicing small animal medicine and surgery over the past 22 years and has developed a special interest in senior dogs and cats. She enjoys being able to improve their quality of life as they age into their golden years.

Before deciding to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, Dr. Lucas earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia. She especially enjoys UVA-VA Tech football games because no matter what team wins, she never loses!

Dr. Lucas and her husband Brian have two young children and a new Chihuahua puppy named Maleficent. As a family, they enjoy boating, kayaking, fishing and baking.

Dr. Lucas is available at Swift Creek Animal Hospital on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and every other Saturday. 


Midlothian Veterinarian Carolyn Powell, Associate VMD

Dr. Carolyn Powell joined the Swift Creek Animal Hospital team in 2015. She actually grew up in Midlothian and is excited to be back practicing veterinary medicine in the area.

After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Biology at Duke University, Dr. Powell earned her Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed a yearlong internship in small animal emergency and internal medicine at Affiliated Animal Care in Chesapeake, VA. She has particular interests in internal medicine, preventative medicine, nutrition, and dermatology.

Dr. Powell lives in Richmond with her energetic pit bull mix, Olive. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, traveling, cooking, and watching Duke basketball. .

Dr. Powell is available at Swift Creek Animal Hospital on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and every third Saturday.


Midlothian Veterinarian Sarah Clarke, Associate DVM

Dr. Sarah Clarke graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 after completing her undergraduate studies at the College of William and Mary in 1997, majoring in biology. Dr. Clarke graduated from veterinary school with her husband Dr. Jeff Clarke, a veterinary neurologist, and they lived in Red Bank, NJ, Jacksonville, FL and Baltimore, MD before settling (hopefully for good!) in Richmond in 2014.

Dr. Clarke practiced feline-only medicine for 12 years, and maintains a passion for treating kitties. In addition, she enjoys the amazing variety of cases and patients that general small animal practice provides. When not working, she cares for her two children as well as an energetic young orange tabby, Trout, and a neurotic shelter mutt, Hammie. Dr. Clarke also enjoys reading, running, and exploring her new hometown of Richmond with her family. She is so glad to be in Richmond and part of the Swift Creek team.

Dr. Clarke is available for appointments Monday and Wednesday mornings and every 4th Saturday.


Midlothian Veterinarian Danell Beisner-Creasey, Associate DVM

Dr. Creasey grew up in Charlottesville and received a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Virginia Tech. After many years of gaining experience in small animal clinics in various support positions, she attended veterinary school at St. George's University on the island of Grenada. She completed her clinical year at University of Missouri, graduating in 2004. She has practiced in New York, Richmond-West End, and Powhatan before joining Swift Creek Animal Hospital.

She is very happy to be practicing so close to home! She lives here in Midlothian with her husband, two very active children, and the world's laziest but very pretty yellow Labrador Retriever, Stella.

When not enjoying her time at work, she is busy taxiing her kids and their carpools around to swimming, baseball, diving, and gymnastics practices. She also enjoys spending time at the beach, hanging out on boats, eating good food (but not cooking!), and wishing she could own chickens.

At work, Dr. Creasey likes seeing all the variety of shapes, sizes, and temperaments our patients come in! She enjoys practicing preventative medicine and making each visit as stress free as possible.

Dr. Creasey is available Thursdays, Fridays and every other Saturday.


Midlothian Veterinarian Andrea Butterfield, Associate DVM

Dr. Andrea Butterfield graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in animal science from Texas A&M University in 2010. Dr. Butterfield grew up riding and showing horses, and spent her initial years as a veterinarian in North Carolina and New Jersey working in equine medicine.

Dr. Butterfield grew up in Virginia Beach and is very excited to be back in Virginia again. In her free time, Dr. Butterfield enjoys traveling, horseback riding, spending time with friends and family, and watching/playing sports. She has a fluffy mutt named Lucy who she enjoys at her side while exploring Richmond .

Dr. Butterfield is available Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays and every third Saturday.


Midlothian Veterinarian Kellett Babb, Associate DVM

Dr. Babb graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. After graduating, she completed a small animal emergency and specialty internship at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolina’s. She then returned home to Virginia and has worked in emergency medicine for the past 7 + years. Her interests include emergency medicine, soft tissue surgery and transfusion medicine.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Babb enjoys photography, stained glass, kickboxing and landscaping. She shares her home with her boyfriend, Kyle, a hound dog named Gus and three cats, Bumble, Percy and Sassy Mcfatty Pants.

Dr. Babb will be available for appointments Tuesday-Friday and Saturdays on a rotating basis.
